If compared to those years, the ‘old’ web browser only can displayed graphics and text and its speed for visiting a web site can made you feel want to ‘bang’ the wall. So, the most common web browsers which also quite well-known are Google chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Firefox. Follow by the FireFox browsers relatives, including Netscape 6.0. I believe that most of us din really realised how much a web browser can impact our online lives, especially our online safety. The web browsers software needs to be upgrading to the latest version so that we can use it daily to navigate to every page and application on the web. It is important to do so because the latest web browsers usually will updated with the latest security fixes and features. Besides, the web evolves quickly. If you are not using the latest web browsers, you will be facing the speed problem where you can’t run the web pages and application smoothly.
The web developers have been work hard to design websites that work with new technologies, with all that effort, Google Chrome is born. The Google Chrome can give the users the benefit of the modern web application. Google chrome is a web browser that develops by Google with the combination of WebKit layout engine and application framework. It was officially release on 11 December 2008. As the latest news report on 4th January 2011, Google Chrome with 14.58% has made it become the 3rd place owner in the most widely used browser ranking whereas the 1st and 2nd places are owns by Firefox (38.11%) and Internet Explorer (37.52%). Although Google Chrome only won the 3rd place, but don’t forget that Google Chrome is just a ‘junior’ as it just released to the market around 2 years whereas the ‘seniors’ such as Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari and others web browsers had been launch for long time. Therefore, Google Chrome can say that it has become a great competitor and threat in the Internet browsing market.
Google chrome is designed based on this 3 Fast concept:
- · Fast start-up – Google chrome launch quickly
- · Fast loading – Google chrome load website quickly
- · Fast search – Google chrome search the internet directly from the address bar
Speed & Compatibility:
Google Chrome is fast. We had no problems when downloading or installing Chrome. Google has taken its move in making Chrome very flexible with the Internet. Chrome was specially designed to load, display, and interact with the huge variety of applications on the web with high speed and efficiently.
Features set:
Google Chrome was designed with load of easy-to-use features and tools. It modified the ‘old’ toolbar, simplified it and turned it around, placing the tabs on top where it can be easily see by the users. Besides, instead of just opening a blank web page, Google chrome offers the browser open a page with thumbnail shots of the user’s most visited site. This has gives the users a big help in navigating to their desired pages more quickly. You also can drag the tabs from the browsers to make new windows, rearrange tabs and even duplicate the tabs. Since each tab is run independently in its own browser, therefore the problem of tab crashing won’t happen and ruin your whole session. Google Chrome also let the users stay incognito, so that the users can browse privately. This stealth browsing mode allows the users to log in the sites and even can download the files without affecting the browsers histories. The users can have one browser window open in normal mode and the other one open in incognito mode. When downloading a file, pictures or any document, it will show at the bottom of the tab where it doesn't draw your attention away from the actual web content. Google Chrome also has an integrated find on page feature, which appears near to the top right corner. Another Chrome's signature features is its Omnibox, a well- designed search bar at the top of the browser. You can type in a URL or a search term, or even both and Chrome will take you to the right place without asking any questions. Omnibox also can know what your favourite is. For instance, if you want to use the PCWorld.com search function, once you have visited the site for only one time, Chrome will remember that PCWorld.com has its own search box and will give you the option of using it right from Omnibox. This function show that Omnibox’s talent has goes beyond the obvious automatic completion function.
Ease of Use:
Google Chrome is well organized and the simple interface can gives users the tools they need at hand. Google Chrome features are powerful and effective, yet simple to use. Google Chrome offers a whole new level of simplicity to web applications. You can create a desktop shortcut that when opened, it will automatically show your desired web application without any tabs, address bars, or even buttons. The tabs in Google Chrome are designed to be simple and help the users utilize tabbed browsing in a whole new way. By using Chrome, the users can easily rearrange the tabs, create new ones, and even transfer tabs from one window to another easily.
Security:
Chrome is designed to keep the users safe and protecting the users’ computer from the phishing scheme, malware, pop-ups, and viruses. It wills automatically updated to make sure the browsers is always up-to-date with the latest security updates. If you are about to access an unsafe website, Chrome will try to stop you by warning. You can also ask for Chrome to remember your passwords or not to.
Google Chrome uses “sandboxing”, which makes every tab run independently and smoothly in the browser. This is very useful and helpful because if there is a certain application crashes, it will immediately isolate the tab from the others, in order not to affect the other tabs. As I mentioned at the above, different processes will run separately in their own tab. By doing this, it can helps to prevent malware from installing itself on your computer and also stops one tab from taking control of all others. Once you found that the tab act ‘weird’, ‘suspicious’ or contain malware, what you need to do is just close the specific tab and that process will be completely terminated. Another innovative feature that Google takes from traditional operating systems and applies to internet browsing is the task manager. Users can open the online task manager and see which websites and applications are running and how much computer memory they are using. Users can even check out the "stats for nerds" section and see detailed information about browser memory usage and the processes running.
Help/Support:
Google Chrome has built up an experienced and knowledgeable help center which provides help in a variety of categories. If you are new users of Google chrome, the knowledge center has resources to help you on how to get started. Besides, they also help advanced users in customizing their experience. Users can also check on the posted problems and leave their comments or suggestions online.
